I am concerned with expressing my own experience through art and design. My artwork is important to me – it helps me to relax and I can also use it to show my feelings. Art is another way for me to communicate with hearing people. I am always trying to improve my work, and I am also always interested in learning about other artists and their work. When I look at other artists work I feel that I can know how they felt when they created that piece of work. A lot of people think that all Deaf people are good artists. Really people are on the same level – some hearing people are good at art and some are bad – same with Deaf people. Sometimes I feel angry inside and I have a lot of problems, because people are angry with me and I don`t know why. If this happens I can use my work to hid and I don`t have to try to understand them.

I was born at the Royal Infirmary in Cardiff on 24th February 1972. I was born Deaf, and grew up with my grandparents looking after me. Almost all of my family come from Jamaica. Some stayed there but many of them now live in the UK. In 1982, when I was 10 years old, I went to Ashgrove School for the Deaf in Penarth. As school I was very interested in drawing and painting, spending time developing my skills in the Art Room.
