10m Down and A Light Year Away

I was born and bred in Holyhead, Anglesey, and followed a career in electronics as an engineer for companies including Sony and Panasonic. I left the electronics industry after fifteen years.
Wanting a new direction and challenge, I qualified as a professional SCUBA diving instructor and moved to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt to pursue this new career. Whilst teaching and guiding in the Red Sea, I produced images to market ‘The Red Sea Diving College` based in Sharm.
I wished to expand my horizons and experience further, so travelled to South Africa to learn to sail. I gained further experience and qualifications, sailing to Barbados and the Mediterranean, working as crew on ‘Super Yachts` before returning to Cape Town to complete my RYA Commercial Yacht Master qualification.
Following a twenty year absence, I returned home to Holyhead in June 2004.
I have since started working for Babcock Defence Services in RAF Valley, Anglesey, am a member of the Holyhead Lifeboat Crew and joined the Anglesey First Response Team, assisting the local Ambulance Service.
I continue to teach SCUBA diving and photography locally. I also crew for visiting yachts in the area and this year I will gain my RYA Instructor certification.
My desire is to combine my skills to make a living from my artwork, teaching diving, photography and sailing.
I wish to sell my images worldwide, initially via the Internet, but later will expand my business in to other areas of image creation, eventually opening my own gallery / studio.
Until I attended a Disability Wales Forum, I felt isolated and hid as best I could my disability from others. I now understand that my art has developed as a result of my illness, not despite it. I at last feel welcome into a group of similar, yet at the same time very different individuals. When it was put to me that others (non-disabled people) need our work to fulfil theirs lives as much as anyone else`s, I felt somehow vindicated.
