Artform: Visual Arts and Crafts
Cheyenne Mahoney is a disabled artist born and raised in Cardiff, Wales. She is a self-taught painter who began with watercolours at a young age. She has spent many years exploring the field of Design, including the completion a HND in Product Design from Bournemouth University which has provided a strong structual basis for her ideas.
Due to health problems, she has taken a sabbatical from her degree studies in art history, allowing her to concentrate on her love of painting.
Cheyenne`s current work is in the medium of acrylic, although her paintings are not solely restricted to the canvas. Past artworks, whether figurative, semi-figurative or fully abstract have been conceived on interior walls, exterior paving, slate, stone, wood, ceramic, fabric, card and plastic. These works range from large canvas paintings to small art cards.
Her full abstractions take the form of enigmatic geometric studies into the intense formal tension of shallow space where the expressing principles of restraint, balance and order are found. She has been influenced by themes presented by artists such as Piet Mondrian and Ben Nicholson.
Her current series is inspired by the harmony and structure found in the simplistic geometric shapes of Cubist collage and Constructivism.
